Action week!

 It was action week and the bell had just rung. Once we arrived in class than koka Rozie reminded us that it was  box wars today! She explained that we were playing capture the flag. There were two teems Karoro and Mania vs Mongo and Kakahe. The two teams would be dressing up as Romans and mongols. We would make cardboard armour  and weaponry ( as long as it was tridational) and fight. First we had to do some research before we started building. 

The first thing I made was a shield. Everybody had to have A shield. Koka Lea had said It was our teams main armour. My shield was A small sturdy and comfortable. The next thing I built was a helmet I made it out of a small box I found in the massive pile of boxes. First I drew the outline around the middle and cut it out. once I had added some feathers I started to make a sword. Than I started to make  some body armour. I got a flattened box and made I head hole, I was perfect, than I shaped it so It was easy to run around in. I named it and put it in a  corner and was ready!

 It was time we lined up on the end of  the soccer field then koka Rozie blew her whistle we charged all of the Romans were charging toward the other team. some people hung around to defend but everyone else was running to the balls. I wove around players like a cat chasing a mouse. Than I got there, I was In the safe zone were the other team couldn't touch me I picked up a ball than Harry s came in and shoved me out! He marked me to!  I said Harry if that one counts . After he did this three times I had no choice but to get out.            

The Kapa Haka!

 It was 8 in the in the morning and It was the day kapa haka festival. I found Stavers Olly and Bramm and we lined up to get our moko. There was a long line. Then it was my turn koka tayla did my right cheek than I lined up to get my left cheek. Koka fly did It. Once we had got our moko we mooched around until the second bell rang. once we were organized we piled onto the bus.The bus roared into life and we were of!

When we arrived we lined up and sang all the songs Just to warm up. Than they announced that we were up next. I felt excited and nervous we walked beside the stage ready to perform. All the teachers looked anxious to. 

Then someone shouted "wainui would you please come to the stage". We marched onto the stage. We grouped up to sing eta ri ke. Once we had finished we spread out. We started to sing utina. Matiria started us of as usual. In the middle the boys moved to the front the floor was trembling from our strong takahea. Than after that it was time for the haka! The first haka we sang was the wainui haka. Bay led us of with the usal"taringa whakarongo titiro mikea" I had tried so hard my chest was red. After we finished Bay led the next haka Kamate kamate with the same start. 

It was time for our final song wainui-e I didn't want to start my chest was so sor. Matiria started then we followed once we had walked of the stage we got to hang around. I was proud I had given my all I also felt relieved that we were finished. On the way back me Harry and Harry sat at the back of the bus we talked of nothing but the kapa haka. Once we had given our skirts to koka rozie we went to lunch.

WBS Craft Fair

                                              

 It was friday and the bell had just rung. I suddenly remembered.

I ran out the door grabbed my bag and rush to Mum, It was the craft fair. She was waiting at the school entrance. "Archie" she said I'm in a rush we need to get home and have a snack then get back. Ok I said, we rushed to the car Nellie by our side. When we got back Mum didn't even glance at Nana waiting at the door she just said, " I'm really under the pump" and rushed to here room to do some jobs. Once we had scoffed down some carrots we drove back to the school. 

While Mum was of doing some jobs I went around to the horizontal bungy. Soon Mum was back with some gym mats. She placed them over the back of Mike's car. Than I saw Harry S I ran over to him I asked If he wanted to test the horizontal bungy he said, "of course". So we headed of to the bungy. Mum and Mike had already set it up. I went first. It was really fun. They made It way harder by tieing some knots in the cord. 

Than a bell rang and that could only mean one thing the craft fair had started. I ran over to Mum and said I'm gonna need my wollit to get some tickets,but to my surprise she said that Nana and Poppa had already got me some tickets! So I ran of to find them. They where with Nell looking a some art. I said can I please have those tickets? Once they had given them to me I was of.

I met up with Harry M.  then I saw Harry S lining up for the bubble soccer so I went along too. It was fun, once I had smashed  every one at least three times I started doing some flips and scoring some goals. When the time was up I slipped out of the bubble and rolled it to the front. Than I saw Olly, Bramm and prince. I walked over to then. they were going to have a look at the other stalls. I went too I also got a sneaky coak. Once we had seen all the stalls twice and had another three goes in the bubbles. We started to play fair tag. 

Me and Harry hid In the bouncy castle the hole time. When all the other kids came and tagged us we jumped all over the castle. Than Nana called and tolled me to leave. reluctantly I slid down to the green grass and went home thinking about the fun adventure I had.                

Athletics

                         Athletics  

I was sprinting towards the high jump bar at the athletics. The next thing I now I cleared the bar and running of to the back of the line. After Harry and Arthur had failed. They were both better at jumping, what were they doing? The next two goes Arthur failed. When it was my turn I failed as well  for all of My ones too. Ouch hitting the bar was .Next thing I know I was out with Harry on the side watching. 

Later on me Arthur and prince went over to ball throw we watched the year threes and than lined up and throw. The girls went first it was a long wait. finally it was the boys turn. I was third In line I had butterflies in my stomach. It was my turn we had to use cricket balls Instead of hockey balls! It was an apouling throw. it only went about 20 m. I went to the back of the line. Once I had both my goes I new I had to practice.

We went back to the tent. we sat down ready to watch the school  relay we had to wait for Wainui beach schools turn. Meanwhile we watched the other  relay teams. Finally it was our turn , our moment to shine. Our girl team was up first. They sprinted around the track passing the baton to each other. Even though we placed in this one would the boys do the same? It turned out that they were the same. They came second! Then the final came. Again we smashed it coming third overall. 

On the way back me Harry and Kahu were in Kally thorps car. we were talking about the athletics. Non of us had come any places so we talked about what we needed to do better. Then when we got back to school we put our t-shirts into the box and settled  down in class.

Pihatie Station Wetland

On Monday room 4 and the Shadehouse group went to Mangaone Station. We were there to weed, mulch and plant native trees in the wetland. I was excited, I loved farms. There was a trailer load of mulch and at least one hundred young plants. 

After they had told us all the rules we went and got into it. It was hard at first than I got the hang of it. There were three hundred trees to weed all together. We did it for around an hour then we had lunch. Once everyone had finished we went for a walk up the hill.

There were a few horses on the hill.Then the boys ran down the hill to a pond. There was a small dirt dam stopping the water from flowing away . It really was a beautiful way to spend a sunny day.

The Bee Bot is Never Wrong!

  The Bee Bot.

Today we wrote instructions for a bee bot maze. First we had to plan the course and test it before we could make the track. My buddy had a little trouble writing his instructions. He was in my buzz group. It took us a while to write the instructions. In the end I finally got to making the maze. The bee bot moved fifteen centimeters each move. So we had to put the blocks fifteen centimeters apart. 

It took me a long time to measure out the maze. It took me five tries to get it right. It was frustrating at first. I learnt that you had to start the bee bot straight otherwise it would start knocking the blocks out of the way. After my five unsuccessful attempts - I did it!! 

It was a relief to be finished.

Lighthouse metaphor

   Two weeks ago we  made a lighthouse on google drawings. We used polyline and the other tools to modify it. We had to come up with a metaphor to go with the drawing my one was (light the way).   I like it because it goes with the drawing. To me it means light up your learning and light the way. I love the Tuahine lighthouse.

When we made the google drawing I wasn't very good at doing that sort of stuff and now I'm really confident. When we created the shape of the lighthouse we used cylinders. Then we fiddled around with it adjusting it and all. Than I had a look at some of the drawing tools. there was polyline, curve and scribble. We drew the rust stains and all of the details. It was a lot of fun mucking around but then eventually the time ran out and we had to pack up. 👌    

 

Bee bot

The bee bot. 

The book was about the three billy goats gruff. When I finished creating the pictures of the story I started to make a grid for the bee bot to travel on . I measured 75 cm on each edge. The bee bot moved 15 cm every time you press the forward button. 

My first two attempts of programing the Bee bot were unsuccessful. On the first attempt I missed the second part of the story were the little billy goat gruff went over the bridge. On the the second attempt I missed the last one by three squares! On the third attempted I finally got it! It went to when the little billy goat gruff crossed the bridge , when the middle sized billy goat gruff crossed the bridge and finally when the big billy goat gruff bunted the troll of the bridge and crossed like the others. I felt really proud of myself for achieving the task.    

the tairawhiti environment sener heros

Hi my name is Archie last week we went to the environment senter with room one. when we arrived we walked through a metal gate and into the most marvelous garden ever. It had chillies capsicums garlic beans and lots lots more.  magnificent garden in the world. It had everything, 

We walked down a gravel path into a small room it had cans and bottles stacked to the ceiling. Then we went around the corner. there was another room with lots and lots of recycled stuff. there were even been bags full of plastic bottles.

we were split into groups and we were of.

FOOD

we went into a room full of food bread eggs lettuce and donuts and other goodies. They said that the supermarket was throwing all the stuff away! They also said that they were giving it to people in need. "My Mum worked here a wile ago!" I said. That's cool some people said. Then it was time to go we wondered what other activities there were.

THE GARDEN

The other group met us and we were of. They led us outside 

into the garden she walked us down the path and told us the names of the plants. She explained how they grew and how to keep them healthy

Finally she said that we could go and taste all the plants. I found a plant that I liked gathered some leefs up and walked around eating them. There were a few sculptures in the garden. All of them had plants growing all over them. it was great fun. then again someone announced that we were leaving to have morning. 

We got our lunch boxes and headed out to the garden to eat. 

Me Harry s and Harry m and Stavers sat down on a bench seat. we talked about motorbikes mountain biking and fishing. I finished my 

lunch and had a walk around tasting more plants.

COMPOST

We got called inside to discuss what other activities we were going

to do. We went of to the compost bin and and sat down.The specialist

came and and told us about all the layers there was a green layers and a brown layers. Here is a list of stuff that you can yous to make your own. Grass, leef , pee straw, weeds and deed plants. Layer it like lasagna a green layer than a brown layer. ceep doing this till the compost bin is full.

WORM FARM

We went to the bee crossing to wait for the other group to finish their task. The group eventually finished and put there gloves away 

and lined up to move. we went and got gloves thinking we were going to yous them. She led us over to the worm farm.it looked empty than she lifted the top layer and it was worms paradise. There were worms everywhere. She gave us a hand full of dirt. There was at least two worms in each handfull we played with them and named them. It was really fun.

 

LEAVING

we went into the room were we got sorted and talked about what we had been doing. Than it was time to leave we said good by and thanks for having us. we lined up on the gravel path to wait for the bus. It came grunting along. We piled on and it left.
